Our Wisconsin Magazine
Come join the full-time staff of Our Wisconsin. It’s colorful, conversational and 100,000 paid subscribers have made it the most popular publication ever devoted to this state.
Our subscribers live in all 72 Wisconsin counties and all 50 states. In our pages, friendly neighbors share their stories about why Wisconsin is the
best place to live.
We’re looking for an experienced editor with strong rewrite skills to join our small collegial staff as we continue the rapid growth of this colorful magazine.
Our Manitowish Waters office is jeans casual, with a Northwoods feel.
You’ll see a friendly Labrador occasionally because he’s our assistant editor. We work hard but have fun…that’s what Our Wisconsin is all about.
The experienced editor we seek will have the ability to help our readers tell their stories. We rewrite articles from our readers here, spotlighting them and not the staff.
A pro editor who has worked on the rewrite desk is preferred. The successful candidate will be able match the tone and style of this magazine. Candidates invited to interview will be given a rewrite test.
A strong storyteller from the gut can do well in this position, but a feature writer without the skills described above won’t make it. Some story writing from scratch will be part of the job.
Reportorial skills such as phone interviewing are needed, but we’re not looking for someone “on the road” to dig out stories. This is a desk job,
in the office, 40 hours per week.
5-10 years professional publishing experience.
4-year degree in journalism or English. Some experience in photography,
page layout, caption and headline writing a plus.
Compensation: This is a full-time position, non-managerial. Compensation package includes competitive pay and structured bonuses, plus paid vacation, personal time and retirement plan. Compensation commensurate with ability and experience.
